The Light in the Piazza

The Light in the Piazza is one of the most beautiful musicals to grace Broadway in the last twenty years. With a book by Craig Lucas and music and lyrics byAdam Guettel. Based on a novella by Elizabeth Spencer, it is set in Florence andRome in the summer of 1953. A young American tourist, Clara Johnson, meets and falls for young Italian Fabrizio Naccarelli. When Clara’s mother Margaret learns of the affair, she opposes it for reasons that only gradually become clear to the audience. The music by Adam Guettel is romantic, complex, and breathtakingly beautiful. We are extremely honored to have Mr. Ron Headrick returns as guest director for Light In The Piazza.

Audition dates:Monday, December 12th at the Alper JCC. Sign-in begins at 5pm and auditions begin at 5:30 pm. Requirements: 16 bars of contrasting Broadway and/or light opera songs. An accompanist will be present. Callbacks are the next day, at 5:30 pm.

Rehearsal dates:Light in the Piazza will rehearse on Tuesdays, Thursdays and some Sundays from late December to February 17. Rehearsals typically run from 6 to 8:30 pm. Tech week runs February 12 through 17 – cast needs to report every night from 5:30 to 9 pm.

Show dates:Light in the Piazza show dates are Friday, February 17th through Sunday, February 28. There will be a 10 am school day show on Friday, February 24 at 10 am.

Fun facts: Light in the Piazza will be the first MCT show that will feature a full blown Italian dinner before a show. Look for dignitaries and VIPS to be invited to an Italian dinner on Saturday, February 18.
